I was sorting through some of the uncatergorised posts imported through blogger today, and I realised that maybe uncatergorised is the best description they could have!
I stumbled across this old post: Some thoughts on Western Lifestyle (read consumerism) at 20 to 2am and I thought it was interesting enough to visit it at a more holy hour.
There is something in western culture which is inherently fake, the idea that our buying trends an lives are living up to a dream, striving for economic victory and trying not to think about the heads we have to stand on to get their.
In longing for our character to line up with God’s we need to see the temporal design for what it is, and stand for justice. This is what that statement evokes in me. Designed in California, the essence of chic, and cool, but made in China by someone who earns less than what my lunch costs. We love to dress our lives with what was designed in California, but deny that it was ever made in China, that someone pays for our short term consumerist satisfaction.
