2007 Intentionally

January 4th, 2007 · No Comments

There are a host of bloggers who are currently proclaiming their New Year resolutions for all to see, and some who staunchly oppose all idea of the resolutions. I normally steer clear from New Year resolutions, believing in the old motivational poster, "if at first you dont suceed, dont try again".

Last year though I read a great post from Jim Martin in one of his Tip’s of the Week series which you can read here

Jim mentioned how he enjoyed the structure of life at college and how it allowed him to reflect on a period and then look forward intentionally to the one ahead, he noted some questions which he wanted to reflect on and so I saved that post to pull out over the New Year / Christmas Break to do some of my own reflecting in order that I would live intentionally over 2007. I didnt manage to do it over that holiday period but I spent about half an hour thinking about it last night and then again today, and reflected on the following questions.

What has been the major Theme over the last year?

What acheivements have I made?

What mistakes have I made?

What friendships have broken down? Am I OK with that?

What freindships have started up, how will I make sure I pay these enough attention?

Am I in neutral or am I being effective and intentional?

Am I chasing after God, learning the scriptures?

How is my Prayer Life?

What do I want to see happen over 2007? How will I make sure I keep these in my mind?

When I think about the answers to some of these (and some a re not yet fully formulated) I wonder how to live it out, but hopefully it will inject some rhythm of life into 2007.

Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and your plans will succeed (Proverbs 16:3)

UPDATE: My Friend Bex Bowtell, sporadic and occasional blogger, offers a couple of good resolutions
