Top Tips for Mobile Phone Contracts

February 15th, 2007 · 2 Comments

Yesterday I re-newed my mobile phone contract with "three" UK, and Im pretty pleased with myself I got a great deal and a new phone. Ive had about 4 or 5 years of mobile phone contracts, and for some reason I keep an fairly close eye on the mobile phone industry, the tariffs, new phones and new technologies. I am not a mobile phone salesperson or even hugely interested in the Industry, but it has come into use, Ive sorted out good deals for myself in the last few years, helped 4 or 5 friends now who have gone on to contracts to get what they wanted as opposed to what the salesperson wanted tro sell them, bartered a business tariff contract for my office, and learnt quite a bit from seeing a few other people barter sucessfully for their contract. Therefore I thought it might be useful to blog a series on sorting out your own mobile phone contracts, and getting the best deal you can.

TIP 1: Choose the contract not the phone - Remember you”ll be paying the price for those minuites for the next year so if you take an over-priced contract to get your hands on the latest phone you” be kicking yourself, the phone will be out of date, sctatched and old in 6 months.

If you can sacrifice buying chic handset and settle for a basic featured handset which was released about 6 months ago, they can cut you a much better deal in the long term.

Sometimes you’ll even see crazy deals on the contracts with their clearance phones, for example Three did this with a lot of its older LG phones, which meant you get (for the period) great deals just by taking an older handset, and remember an older handsets in 2007 will have all the features you need, as most phone now come with bluetooth, mp3, photo as standard and are mostly set apart by design and extra smaller technology innovations.

That is so true a lot of the features in the upcoming mobile handsets make a great USP but not necessarily needed by a common man
