In the present moment

I had a few longer posts in the mix which have kind of stagnated at the draft stage, and I have been doing little or no reading save University reading, though due to my current level of tiredness that hasn’t been computing that all that well. I was on the phone to a good friend last night and said that I didnt feel like my brain was clicking into gear, but I am certainly trying to rev it in neutral.

"I’ll look back on these years and be glad I was so productive" I also said, this is of course true, when I look back on these years I certainly will see how God blessed me to do my degree, while being paid well and getting invaluable experience at work, and buying/fixing up my house, but I dont want it to all fly by and be lost in busyness. I am so tired because I never stop, my days, although sprinkled with meaningful interaction are task-based, once one is finished, I look to the next. In one way I am OK with that, task certainly need to be performed, and the timing of them needs to be ordered, but I was glad to read on Jim’s blog today, a reminder to myself that busyness is not the goal, and that God operates, and is in the present moment, and we certainly loose an aspect of our lives with God if we do the following, Jim quotes Fil Anderson, in Running On Empty (pg 19-20):

"We rarely are grounded in the present moment (where God is to be encountered) because we’re always rushing out beyond it or replaying in our minds our disappointing past."

Some times we need to take time, and I know thats what I miss within the busyness, some time to be with God and to know him in the moment, sure we can know him through all our daily activities, but we also need to centre the ball with God sometimes and deny the things which consume our time, to consume our experiencing God in our lives.

Can you think of any other way we can encourage ourselves to live in the present moment.
