…Everywhere, and I am pleased about that, change is bringing life to me!
This morning on my way to work I engaged in a wonder of modern technology when my bluetooth car kit picked up a phone call from my great friend John, who was calling me from Hawaii! From Hawaii to my mobile and it cost him like 2p a minuite, other than re-emphasizing I need to hook up skype it was great to speak to him.
I love to also hear about change in other peoples lives, John is getting ready to make big decisions and his options are realy exciting.
What I was also excited to hear from him briefly is some feedback from a YWAM (who he works with in Kona) World leaders meeting. He said that they were coming together to discuss vision for what must be one of the largest mission organisations out there, and broadly from the little he said I gleamed that YWAM felt like it was to move on from a more traditional view of mission to commisioning disciples to be world changers in the workplace, into the arts, and community.
This is the type of stuff that excites me, and its way more than just YWAM there seems to be a concious change in the thinking surrounding mission and "doing" discipleship that is very real. By that I take real to be a catch all phrase for the more vogue words used such as organic, holistic, maybe even missional? Above all of this I think is an underlying desire that faith should be lived in the real:
- the reality of people in depravity and need of life
- the reality of Christians living out their faith, not perfect in their own eyes, or reaching down from some high ground of righteousness
- the reality of a world view that Christ is at the centre of
This has been going around for a while, but I am starting to see the "legs" on the concepts that have been written about and discussed in my local area, and that is great.
Something I heard a Christian leader say recently have been a "breath of fresh air" are phrases such as "We dont want to add any meetings because we want people to have the chance to be around non-christians".
What does all this mean? Well, it could be nothing, but it could be something, and I think as Christians we are called to believe in the best for people and the kingdom, so believing that their is change and life being breathed into the things of living life as Christ, understanding mission, church planting and world missions are things we have to encourage and celebrate.
