Living a Generous life

September 26th, 2007 · No Comments

I had a great time of worship yesterday with some friends of mine and during it was thinking of the theme of generosity and felt a few ways in which the Lord was challenging me to live with generosity as a witness to the generosity of his grace which enables us to draw close to him.

Living Generously with our resource

This is the first and obvious one that we all associate with giving away our money, but I think integral in this is more than money, it is being generous with all our resources, are we able to give someone a lift so they dont have to take a taxing bus ride? Do we have a skill that we can teach someone or means we can do something for them that they otherwise wouldn’t be able to do? If you’re retired you might have the resource of time which you can be genrous with for people who you think might be lonely, just spending time with them, being company.

Living Generously with our emotions and perceptions

Sometimes we can read the subtext of every word spoken, every action performed, and this can be all in all every pessimistic. We can see someone do something and think "well they’re just doing that becuase they want this or that", sometimes it is being generous, giving the benefit of doubt, and believing the b est in people.

Living Generously with our truths

Now some of you may think Ive slipped off the edge into a theological abyss, but Im not talking about what most of you may consider theological imperatives, what I mean is that we have to live with humility in our perception of our Christian methodologies, and not be black and white on things that can only be tenuously backed up with scripture. Not considering ourselves to have a monopoly in the way we express or articulate our faith.

If you can think of anything that could be added please comment, or anything in the Christian life you think requires a generous attitude.
