Today I was reading about the continued scandal of dodgy funding for labour leadership campaigns, and couldn’t but see that in a very macro sense how much we’ve been here before.
A Big Charasmatic leader(1) who brings renewal to their political party(2) and hangs on to power for the best part of a decade only to leave their position to a less than perfect candidate(3) who cant fill the charasmatic shoes of the previous leader and subsequently drags the name of the political party down for yet another charasmatic leader from the opposition(4) to begin the process again.

(2)Thatcherism (US: Reagen) / New Labour (third way) (US: Clinton - less synonomous than the Reagen/Thatcher relationship)
(3) Major / Brown - Though it should be noted that whilst Brown does not fill the charisma shoes of Blair he probably outweighs Blair and Major in terms of political mind.
