I saw the Golden Compass over the weekend, really enjoyed it and am perplexed as to why there is so much outrage about it. Quite possibly a clever marketing scam? If so they have many hooked and lined. I am willing to be wrong and deny my desire to see the rest of the movies (its a trilogy). Just to set the context if you haven’t heard anything (and therefore been living on planet zogg)
THE MOVIE
- IMDB About the Movie
- Wikipedia - About the movie
THE AGAINST
Albert Mohler - "Briefing your concerned Congregation"
Catholic League - "calls for Boycott"
THE CHRISTIAN FOR’S
- Jason Clark - "A Thoughtful response to the Golden Compass"
- Jamie Arpin Ricci - "The Golden Compass: A Christian Response"
Though I loved the film as a brit Pullman really isn’t doing a great job of breaking our cultural steroetype around the globe by calling the detractors "nit wits"…come on "oldboy" pull some proper insults out of the bag or Ill "have at you!"
"Why don’t we trust readers? Why don’t we trust filmgoers? Oh, it causes me to shake my head with sorrow that such nitwits could be loose in the world." - Philip Pullman - Times Online

In his world, a movie that would dare call the Magisterium to task would be pronounced off-limits for the populace. And why not? It’s a good political move for those who want to consolidate and preserve their power at any cost. Related: Golden Compass - Fuss over nothing [...]
