Something I am always keeping an eye out for is lessons in ministry from people who have run the race for longer than me, it is one of the reasons I read absolutely everything that Jim Martin writes as it just exudes the lessons of experience. Im not entirely convinced we can learn everything this way, and often the best lesson is the stinging reminder of failure, though I believe we can avoid serious pitfalls by learning from those who go before us.
