Scot McKnight talks about the evangelical manifesto and how the term evangelical is ecumnical not primarily confessional or as he puts it: Evangelicalism is essentially “gospel ecumenism” instead of “theological conformity.” Evangelicals unite around the gospel but tolerate all kinds of diversity theologically. Thus, from the time I’ve been around this theological issue — and I began reading this stuff in the 70s and have not stopped — evangelicalism has agreed to agree on the basics — the gospel — but has been willing to let theological confessions be what they are: church confessions for local congregations. Instead of haggling over theological confessions, evangelicals have agreed to agree on the gospel.
Also the Jesus Creed’s Pastors Wisdom series has been excellent, check them out here.
There is going to be a HUGE evangelical conference in June at Princeton on the topic of "The Gospel, Politics and the Future" called Envision 08. "The conference aims to unite evangelicals and mainstream Christians in a conversation about how the gospel and politics interrelate in the current American context." There are 60 Speakers, yes, 60! Including:Shane Claiborne, Brian McLaren, Miroslav Volf, Jay Bakker, Bart Campolo, Rich Cizik, and Jim Wallis. I would like to be around for that, will anyone be blogging it?

Re: the Evangelical Manifesto, I had to do it. Andrew’s call at TallSkinnyKiwi compelled me.
THE POST-EVANGELICAL MANIFESTO is now up and awaiting comment, criticism, or, more probably, to be blown out of the water.
