Start of the week round up

June 16th, 2008 · 1 Comment

Yes, only one post since last weeks round up and I have a plethora of posts for you. I am wondering if these round ups are overkill, but I do enjoy cataloging the finds for my own use at any rate.

Andy White has re:launched his site with a fancy new design and lots of ‘:’s. Andy is a great blogger and I’m looking forward to reading more of his technology, blogging and Big Life words.

I’m starting a new blog series on Missions in the 21st Century, it will focus on  responses from guest bloggers and I’ve had some great responses already which I am excited to post over the next few weeks, so keep checking in for that.

Cool Tools is a great blog that I keep bookmarked, it features reviews on great books, gadgets and software and always picks up on something Ive never heard of before. The archives make excellent reference material as well!

Scot McKnight mentioned a Boston Globe photo article on Afghanistan which some incredible photos in it. see them here

A very interesting blog post from Eugene Cho on preaching, I particularly found this quote interesting: "I do read the particular text at least 50-70x over the course of two months leading to the Sunday I teach from that text.  That’s been one of the most helpful aspects in establishing a level of “confidence” in my preaching voice."

I’ve grown to very much enjoy Abraham Pipers 22Words Blog, the short but frequent blog posts are normally very insightful or just enjoyably light-hearted, a good tension in my opinion.

Andrew Jones is trying to gain weight this year, a nice problem to have in my opinion.

Thanks to Donovan Palmer for making me aware that Firefox 3 is coming out tomorrow and wants to break the Guinness World Record for downloads. Even if you’re not a Microsoft-hater its a good way to keep Bill Gates et al on his toes!

There is Karl Barth Blog conference going on here, thanks to Faith and Theology for making me aware of that one. This sentence seemed to sum up the sentiment and reasoning for the conference: "those that stay to read in depth and (hopefully) comment will do so because they – like our authors – believe that there is something significant to be gleaned from the work of Karl Barth, and aren’t afraid of doing a little hard work in attempting to find it."

Not so sure how they would feel being referred to as ’stars’ but Inhabition Dei is asking who will be the next generation of important theological thinkers, nice to see Andy Goodliff representing for the UK in the comments.

Zach Nielsen has blogged all the videos on his Church Band Seminar on one blog post here. I watched one the other day, some good tips to be had.

Centre for Theology and Philosophy along with Eerdmans are releasing the Interventions series. I am most interested to read the ‘very critical introductions’ to Zizek and Hauerwas (promo copies on the go anyone?).

Tim Hughes has started a conversation at his blog to try and clear up if its OK to worship the Holy Spirit.

Apparently George W Bush may consider converting to Catholicism after leaving office and join his mate Tony Blair.
